in Wilmington including the NAACP, and often addressed the New Hanover
County School Board during their audience call on issues related to
special needs, diversity, and quality education for all children.

congregations spread the Word of God, Kim founded Church Secretary
On-Thee-Go to give a boost to dedicated volunteers and church office
workers who need assistance or training.

the Word, offers economical web design for churches, non-profits, and
small businesses.
An Exciting New

More
than you wanted to know . . .
Kim was raised as a
"military brat" - both in the Air Force and Army - and
likes to joke that she "wasn't born and raised anywhere."
Actually, she was born in Anderson, SC while here father attended Clemson
University, moved to Athens, GA where he earned his Doctor of Veterinarian
Medicine degree and lived in Ft. Collins, CO as he pursued graduate
studies in radiation biology at Colorado State University.
Prior
to returning to the Air Force as a commissioned officer (he had served as
an enlisted man right out of high school), G.R. McCahan, Jr. moved the
family to Williamsport, PA while awaiting orders. Following a tour at
Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, Myrtle Beach, SC, "Chap"
transferred to the army, and the family moved to Ft. Bragg, then
Fayetteville, NC while he served in Vietnam (2/68-2/69) as one of only two
Special Forces veterinarians there at the time. Upon his return, Chap was
stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL, where he was with USAARL.
Upon his retirement, the family moved to a farm in New Brockton, AL, and
Kim graduated from Enterprise High School, Enterprise, AL. During these
years, Kim's mom Helen served as a public health nurse, school nurse, and
Red Cross volunteer. Chap died in February 1987 from leukemia brought on
by his exposure
to Agent Orange. Kim's siblings followed in their parents' footsteps -
her sister is a nurse and her brother is a Col. in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Upon
graduating from Furman University, Kim became a store manager with S &
H Green Stamps in the beautiful Western North Carolina mountain town of
Franklin. In short order she was promoted to stores in Knoxville, TN and
Macon, GA. She returned to Franklin, where she began her MBA at Western
Carolina University and moved to Sylva. Shortly after beginning her career
with Eckerd Drug Company, Kim moved to Wilmington, NC, remaining with
Eckerds for nearly 17 years. In June 2000, as her two youngest
children were beginning Kindergarten, Kim switched careers and began what
was to become over seven wonderful years at St. John's Episcopal Church as
Parish Administrator. When her husband accepted a position with the Chapel
Hill-Carrboro school system, the family moved to Chapel Hill, NC.
